SYJAC emerged in the year 1993 through the initiative of Don Samuel Ruiz García (who was the Bishop of the Diocese of San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas) in response to the violent expulsions of the indigenous community from their places of origin, supposedly for religious motives. From the beginning, SYJAC has worked as a program for social justice with an ecumenical perspective.

From its inception, SYJAC has been a link between the needs of the indigenous communities and the national and international people, organizations and institutions desiring to help these needs.

One of the first and important contributions of SYJAC has been the inception, accompaniment and installation of the housing program of "Habitat for Humanity, A.C." in Chiapas.

VISION: Construct a just, dignified and egalitarian society in harmony with nature.

MISSION: Accompany, strengthen and disseminate economic, social, cultural, environmental and indigenous rights through the fomentation of integrated processes in the communities, groups and institutions.
